Metro Atlanta students donate to NFL’s super kids super sharing project

DULUTH, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) – Hundreds of metro Atlanta students donate boxes full of sports equipment, books, and school supplies as part of the NFL’s Super-Kids-Super-Sharing project.

Organizers collected the donations throughout the day at the Infinite Energy Center’s Forum in Duluth.

The items will go to students in need.

As part of the event, Verizon made an $18,000 donation to the Ron Clark Academy, a non-profit middle school in southeast Atlanta.

The Super-Kids-Super-Sharing program has given back to students in need for nearly 20 years.

Atlanta, GA (CBS46) After a dry Christmas, precipitation will move back into metro Atlanta to end the work week and advisories are posted as a result.

Strong storms are expected to return Thursday night where chances of rainfall are about 40 percent. There’s a 100 percent chance of showers on Friday.

As the week comes to an end temperatures will reach into the 60’s.

A wind advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Friday morning for several metro Atlanta counties, including: Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, Floyd, Haralson, Paulding and Polk.

Wind speeds could reach up to 20 miles per hour with gusts of up to 35 miles per hour.

The nonprofit 3Keys has to pay $30,000 in property taxes annually on a renovated property, Phoenix House in West Atlanta, which houses 69 people. A measure, if approved, on the Georgia ballot would help nonprofits provide permanent housing to homeless people with mental illness.

At the end of the Georgia ballot this year is a referendum that, if approved, would help nonprofits provide permanent housing to homeless people with mental illness.

Referendum B would allow a property tax exemption for nonprofit housing of these individuals in residences that get tax credit financing from for-profit business entities.

ATLANTA, GA — The Eta Aquarid meteor shower peaks Saturday through Monday, May 5-7, with the potential for a long stretch of shooting stars. But the long-range weather forecast for metro Atlanta suggests we might get a little soggy trying to take a look.

According to the National Weather Service, we’re in for some cloudy nights with a chance of showers during that time. Saturday night will be cloudy, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the service.

There’s another 20 percent chance of showers Sunday night, when it will be partly cloudy, while Monday night brings another partly cloudy forecast. There’s a chance of showers during the day on Monday but at least there’s no rain in the forecast for Monday night, according to the NWS forecast.
